3 Common Kitchen Remodeling Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Here at Carolinas Custom Kitchen & Bath Center, we have extensive experience in kitchen remodeling, and we have seen our fair share of mistakes. Our team wants to help you make your remodel the best it can be, and to do that we have put together this list of some of the most common kitchen remodeling mistakes and how you can avoid them.

  1. Insufficient Lighting- It should go without saying, but if you want to use your kitchen to cook, you need to be able to see what you’re doing. One of the most common mistakes we’ve seen when it comes to kitchen remodeling is not including enough lighting. Your kitchen should have a combination of overall illumination, accent lighting, and task lighting, and skipping out on any one of them will leave your space looking dark and make it hard to work in.
  2. Poor Ventilation- If you’ve ever had your smoke detector go off while making dinner, you’ve experienced one of the consequences of poor kitchen ventilation. To fix this problem, make sure that your kitchen remodeling plan includes a quality range hood with a good air intake that will actually transport smoke and cooking fumes outdoors. Not only will this prevent annoying false alarms, but it can also keep your kitchen smelling fresher, as old food scents won’t stick around.
  3. Wrong Layout- Lastly, a third common mistake we see in kitchen remodeling is choosing the wrong layout for the space. The floorplan of your kitchen is very important, as it determines how you will need to move through the space in order to collect ingredients, prep and cook them, and dispose of any waste, as well as how everyone in your household will need to move in order to navigate through the space. Our team can help you design an effective layout for your new kitchen so that traffic flows smoothly throughout.
